Welcome
Being accepted into Cornell is a great accomplishment, but only one step on a long path that begins well before admission and never really ends. Being at Cornell will surely be a challenging and enthralling time, and, in the end, one of the most rewarding experiences one can be a part of.
It takes a lot of hard work to get here. It takes even more hard work, plus a lot of support, and a strong community, to succeed here. The Office of Minority Educational Affairs is here to lend that support, build that community, and serve as a guide along every step of that path.
Our programs and services are designed to meet our eligible students' specific needs and achieve our ultimate goal of retaining our enrolled students at Cornell and facilitating a timely graduation for each one.
In everything we do, OMEA's mission is to offer our students a chance for:
-
Opportunity - OMEA offers opportunities to build valuable leadership skills through service learning programs, conferences, workshops, and student organizations.
- Motivation - OMEA provides developmental counseling and advising to teach life skills for personal, professional and financial issues. We also work collaboratively with Cornell’s many colleges and campus offices to ensure seamless navigation of services and programs and to aid in our students’ academic success and enrichment.
- Engagement - OMEA creates community through projects designed to promote intra- and cross-cultural competence and to expose students to out-of-classroom interactions with faculty, staff and alumni.
- Advancement - OMEA students benefit from our employment service programs including work-study, internships and career information seminars, as well as connections with other OMEA Alumni already in the professional sector.
